March Bird Walk

March 31st Bird Walk @ Reynolda

Nathan and 43 other birders had a great bird walk this morning at Reynolda. We saw a total of 48 species! Highlights included, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker (photo below), Palm Warbler, Louisiana Waterthrush, Blue-headed Vireo, and Blue-gray Gnatcatchers. One of the most exciting things however, was a dead Great Horned Owl. The owl was likely killed by another Great Horned Owl. Although it was sad to see a dead owl, it was nice to be able to study it and see it up close!

Here is a link to our eBird checklist: https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S44116850

Our next bird walk will be April 28th at Reynolda again, this will be the best time of year to see some of our spring migrants, and Reynolda is one of the best places in Winston-Salem to see them! We will start this walk a little earlier (8 a.m.), the birds are most active early in the morning when they are feeding frantically before they continue their migration North!
